Stunning pictures but lacking text

As essentially a "picture book," the title really does well here. Just over 300 pages long, each one a glossy full color page containing a full spread of a picture. The pictures themselves are stunning, both in printing and photographing - great color, saturation, framing, and overall composition. Paper weight is substantial, making the piece more of a coffee table book than something you'd sit in bed with. Somewhat chronologically arranged, starting with the earliest models, and moving through in chapters according to "erras," some of which overlap in years, to the modern day variants. Almost all pictures contain years and model designations, with some showcasing brief model specifications, such as engine, transmission, production, etc. The break in pages on the two-page spreads somewhat detracts from the viewing, but not much you can really do with that.

The text is really the low point of the book for me. What little text there is present is repeated in several languages, throughout most of the book. A short forward, and a small paragraph introducing each chapter is essentially the only information provided. No details on the history of each model, particular artwork / branding of the car, etc. Just a year, model, and a few sentences on what the particular era the chapter is based around. I understand providing a history lesson wasn't the main purpose of this book, but it would still have been nice to have a little background to accompany the stunning photographs.

Overall rather happy with the purchase; worth the price in my opinion. Definitely a book that will actually get picked up and flipped through for some time to come, and not just collect dust on some shelf. Great to show someone the progression of the brand, or as a conversation piece with company.

Lot's of Pictures

The pictures are fantastic but I was hoping for a complete history on the 911. If you are looking for an in depth look into how the 911 came about, you are looking at the wrong book. The book will give you a brief history of each model change but there is isn't enough meat to describe the conception, development and refinement of this fine vehicle.

Major Disappointment

I'm a Porsche enthusiast and own a 911 Turbo. I bought this book expecting to read "the" illustrated history of this amazing car. However, for my surprise, it is basically a bunch of nice photographs bundled together in chronological order. There is almost no text or information. Well, if you like photography, as I do, then this may be a book for you. But if you want to learn about the Porsche 911 and its history, then look for something else. Too expensive for what it is. Well, I returned the book to Amazon.

Christ Over Coffee

Don't let the gimmicky theme fool you. There's a Bible under that cover that's a joy to read and a snap to navigate. Read black text on white, white text on black, and java on cream. If your goal is to be the first to read aloud when your Sunday school teacher asks for someone to read a few verses, I can say with some certainty that you'll at least be in the running against others who enjoy bringing their tablets to church.

In the book of Daniel, you learn that a significant increase in knowledge is a signal telling you that Christ's return is near. Those of you who own a Kindle Fire or similar device have access to what is arguably the sum of the world's knowledge whenever you're in range of a wi-fi connection. It's our generation that is the first to have this capability in the comfort of our coat pocket. Jesus commanded that we recognize the signs so that we may live our lives "looking up" instead of being lulled to sleep by the cares of our world. The Coffee House NIV Bible, along with many others offered on Amazon, will help you do just that.

While wading through the various reviews for NIV Bibles for the Kindle Fire, I wound up choosing one with no reviews. Yes, I do understand that my writing this has lessened your chances of doing the same. If this bothers you, I highly recommend grabbing a cup of coffee and spending some time with this no frills yet fully functional digital version of God's word. Read while waiting in line for coffee

I really enjoy this topical Bible. Initially, I ridiculed it, thinking we had demeaned a holy text into an accessory. And while I still think there's a bit of truth to that in terms of Christian marketing (a whole different subject to speak on!), I have since had a change of heart. What I love about this edition is the "short, tall & grande" devotionals that will be relevant for the rest of my life in terms of topics offered. I can just touch on a topic, or go in depth with it. It also is very slim and flexible, and fits perfectly in my purse (to be fair, I prefer roomy purses), so I can carry it with me wherever I go. It's become my second-favourite Bible - second only to the one I got myself when I became a Christian in college (Zondervan NIV Life Application Study Bible).

The only thing I don't like about it is that there are no introductions to the books within the Bible. I think this helps keep it slim, and I have other Bibles and books on the Bible to help me study, but it's always nice to have some info on the book before reading it. So that's a minor negativity, not a major one. It's also only available in NIV, which I don't mind, but I know that's not everyone's favourite translation.

All in all, this is a darling addition to one's Bible collection. I don't think I'd recommend it as someone's first Bible if they are new to Christianity, as it doesn't have many study points, but it is wonderful at applying the Word to one's daily life. Great gift idea if your Bible study meets at a coffeehouse!

Awesome, but.....

This is an easy-to-understand Bible that allows for various highlighting to be done. All my information is in one Bible. It would be even better if we were given a few pages (whether at the beginning or at the end) for seperate notes to put definitions of things or general information needed about the Bible. If this were done with an update, I would change my rating to 5 stars.

About the Author
Élmer Mendoza is a literature professor and crime novelist, a formative figure in the genre known as "narco-literature," or narco-lit. Also a dramatist and short story writer, he is best known for his series of detective novels starring detective Edgar "Lefty" Mendieta. The first Lefty Mendieta novel was A Lone Murderer, which immediately garnered praise for its realistic portrayal of Mexico's flourishing narco culture and the ways in which it has shaped Mexican law enforcement and politics. Mendoza has won several literature awards, including the José Fuentes Mares National Literary Prize, for Janis Joplin's Lover, and the prestigious Tusquets Prize, for Silver Bullets. Mendoza lives and writes in Culiacán, Mexico.

Excellent detective literature

Excellent detective literature. The compliment about the dialogue is true to an extent but honestly if you're used to reading carefully you can navigate the text. Mendoza turns the nacrolit genre on it's head with a character who is honest to an extent but still carries some of the stain of being in league with who we want to call the "bad guys." It's not that easy with Mendoza's story. Lefty is an amazing character. I liked him even with his flaws and I love him for his darkness. You're drawn into his mind and his world. Author does this amazing job of making commentary about society in a way that shows things as they are but with this subtle touch that doesn't come across as overbearing or preachy. I can't wait for the second translation.

A good read once you get the hang of it

The "problem" with the book is not the translation as suggested by one reviewer but the absence of quotation marks and clear identifiers of who said what to whom. I have seen this literary convention used in several other books. It is difficult at first, but when you learn the distinctive voice of each character, the reading of dialogue becomes less of a burden and more of a challenge. That being said, the story is a good read although it suffers in my opinion from insufficient development of the detective, the main character.

About the Author
Forrest-Webb is a literary award-winning, best-selling, professional author. Born in Nottingham but raised and schooled in Merseyside, he has had more than 20 novels published in hardback and paperback, and in most European languages. One novel became a Disney film, another a long-running musical. He has written for TV, radio and the theatre. He writes under his own name and three pseudonyms. He has served in the British armed forces and is a keen sportsman, having been a British kayak National Champion and representing the UK internationally in the World Canoe Championships (K1 500 meters), and again a few years later as a 'works' sponsored international-class motor-cross rider, racing in the UK, in France, Algeria, and in the BBC's TV motor-cross series. He is a 7th Dan black belt in aikido, having been awarded that high grade by The Japan Aikido Association, and The British Aikido Association. He is also a judo black belt. He has been the senior instructor of a martial arts club in Wales for the past 34 years, and prior to that founded clubs in Hampshire and London. He has never accepted payment from students for martial arts instruction. Until he began writing novels he was a journalist and worked for several British national newspapers, before becoming executive editor for a well-known UK magazine publishing group. He lives and writes on a farm in the Marcher country between England and Wales and maintains an active participant interest in country sports. He is still writing.

Ending was too abrupt

It was getting really good - the characters were coming into their own, the situation was really intense, with a huge twist. Then the book ended. No elaboration, nothing. Just abruptly finished. Disappointing really. If there were a follow-up book or something, the ending might make sense as more of a bridge... but no.

If you like Red Storm Rising, Team Yankee, etc, then this book will be right up your alley. Very good, very gripping book right up until the end. I won't spoil the ending, but it's incredibly disappointing.

Thoracic surgeon Gundry has invented many devices now commonly used in heart surgeries. I love it and lost 8 pounds in my first week ...

This is a program that is a natural dietary change, this is not a fad diet at all. The diet points out the physical impact white and beige foods (carbs, sugars, sweeteners, starches, etc.) have on your body and your fat production process. The system is natural and filled with whole foods and vegetables. I love it and lost 8 pounds in my first week on the diet. I only have another 5 to 10pounds that I want to lose to hit my best weight and it is amazing how quickly it can work. I did the diet 6 years ago and had great results and my blood test changed just as predicted to where my cholesterol and triglycerides fell to normal levels that were the lowest of my life within 6 to 8 weeks on the diet. I then fell off the wagon and added the whites and carbs back in heavily over the past year so I gained the weight back. This time I will stay in control and have a day a week that I can eat what I want and then stick to the diet the rest of the week so that I can maintain my perfect weight but not deprive myself completely of the "bad foods".. I love this program and it works if you work it!!!

Life Changer!

This diet has changed my life! After following it for only about two weeks, I noticed many health issues (that were plaguing me) were disappearing. I have never felt better! I have been on it now for almost eight years and I have basically stopped aging while my friends pass me by. The diet starts out slowly -I started on the end diet which has mostly raw vegetables and fruits as an immune system course (for my continuing education to maintain my nursing license) also recommends raw food to boost the immune system. As a result, I have not been sick since I started this diet.

I'm on my way and very happy to be learning more good habits

So far I'm very enthusiastic! I've lost 7 lbs the first week and I'm not that heavy. Went from 172 to 165, my ideal weight would be about 147. I'm doing this mainly to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. 5 years ago I got rid of the carbs and lost 20 lbs and put it back on. Since then I've been changing my eating habits little by little. First Atkins, then Paleo, now Dr Gundry.... I've adapted many permanent changes over time and continuing to do so. This book is just another tool in my belt. Now that I'm pushing 60 years old, it was very hard to start the weight loss process. Nothing was changing my metabolism anymore. This book worked! I'm on my way and very happy to be learning more good habits! Can't weight to get a blood test in a few months to see what my cholesterol is.
