About the Author
M. Robert Mulholland Jr. (1936-2015) was emeritus professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary and the author of several books, including Shaped by the Word, The Deeper Journey, Revelation and the landmark spiritual formation book Invitation to a Journey. He also served as pastor of Shirley Community Church in Shirley Mills, Maine. During his extensive academic career, Mulholland served as adjunct professor at the Academy for Spiritual Formation and taught at several seminaries and universities around the world, including Wesley Theological Seminary, Harvard University, McMurry University, Moscow Evangelical Christian Seminary (Moscow, Russia), West Africa Theological Seminary (Lagos, Nigeria) and Baltic Mission Center Theological Seminary (Tallinn, Estonia). An elder in the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church, Mulholland was a frequent speaker at Bible and spiritual renewal conferences. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children.

I used this guide on a recent vacation in Salerno. It is by far the best guide book I have seen for covering the really interesting, small towns south of Naples. It is also very interesting and frank about Naples' fading allure as a tourist destination itself. Highly recommended.

About the Author

Ralph Erber is professor of psychology and associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at DePaul University. He received his undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Mannheim and his Ph.D. in psychology from Carnegie Mellon University. His work has been published in a number of places, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. He is also the author and editor of several books, including Understanding Genocide: The Social Psychology of the Holocaust (with Len Newman). He was president of the Midwestern Psychological Association in 2005-2006, and with Leonard Martin edited Psychological Inquiry from 2003-2009.

Maureen Wang Erber is professor of psychology at Northeastern Illinois University where she is Associate Chair of the department. Her Bachelor’s degree includes a double major in Psychology and French, with certificates from L’Institute Catholique and the Sorbonne in Paris.  She received her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Her work has been published in a number of places, including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. Her research interests include conflict and trust in intimate relationships and mate-choice copying.

The authors met at a social psychology conference in October 1988 and were married the following summer. They live in north suburban Chicago with their children Kekoa and Kai, two cats, a pet turtle, and assorted fish. The game of soccer is one of the many passions they share.

I've never written a review for a book before, so not sure quite how it goes. I wanted to say that this is an excellent book - it was used as a "text" book for my college class "Psychology of Love" and it was one of the best books I ever read. Although it does have a "text-book" style, it is easy reading and the information is interesting and informative. Erber and Erber discuss several different theories associated with love, and begin the book with what attracts one another, all the way to dissolution of love. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge and thoughts on love. In addition I'd recommend reading it in conjunction with Robert Sternberg's Love is a Story book, isbn 0195131029.

An excellent overview of theory and research on close relationships

Whereas many textbooks are written in the familiar dry "textbook" tone, one aspect that sets this book aside from many others - including books on this topic - is that it is written in a conversational manner. Erber and Erber did a great job communicating the findings from years of research on various dimensions of close relationships: from attraction and relationship initiation to love to relationship dissolution. Importantly, they complement the research which they present with the primary theories which have been used by the researchers. Although this book is targeted towards those who may be less familiar with the interdisciplinary field of close relationships, it is useful to almost anyone interested in the topic or conducting their own research in any of the field's topics.

In sum, the conversational tone, the presentation of the theory and research in this vast field, and the coverage of all the important topics within close relationships make this a must-read for anyone interested in this type of work: from the novice beginning his or her career to the established researcher who may use a good reference book.

About the Author

WANDA OSTROWSKA KAUFMANN is Visiting Assistant Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University and a Lecturer at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Born in Germany, she is of Polish descent and was raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and speaks six languages fluently. Her research involves applying anthropological and archaeological methodologies and theories to the study of literary texts, writers, and readers. Dr. Kaufmann received her PhD in Medieval Spanish Literature from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently Visiting Assistant Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University and a Lecturer at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

This volume presents his lectures on Genesis 1-3, translated for the first time into English. These lectures take us back to the heady early days of the Reformation, where we find Oecolampadius skillfully negotiating the dense thicket of perplexing questions that had long surrounded the story of Creation and Fall, boldly reforming the ancient traditions of Christian exegesis by the application of the Reformed conviction that sinners are justified before God by faith alone. He also did what only a learned humanist scholar like him could do, bringing to his aid the insights he had gained through his study of the Hebrew text of Scripture as interpreted in rabbinic Judaism and through his wide reading in the sermons and commentaries of the eastern Church Fathers.

In these lectures, delivered only months before his untimely death, Oecolampadius poured out his very life for the sake of the Reformation in Basel and the formation of the citys first generation of Reformed pastors.

Mickey L. Mattox is Associate Professor of Theology at Marquette University, where he leads the graduate program known as Luther Studies in a Catholic Context. He earned the PhD Degree at Duke University, and has written broadly in Luther studies, the history of exegesis, and ecumenical theology.

A much needed translation, helpfully printed alongside the Latin.

The study of the Reformation has only benefitted from increased study of those reformers "in the wings". Unfortunately, the works of those other than Luther and Calvin have long been hidden from English speakers, meaning that students do not encounter them until they have gained a mastery of Latin, German and French and a tolerance for microfiche.

Mattox's translation, printed opposite the Latin text, is an excellent contribution to this larger project of making accessible a broader range of reformers, and his brief introduction brings his experience as a Reformation historian and scholar of Genesis commentaries to bear in providing helpful background. Hopefully, Mattox will continue to publish translations of Oecolampadius' work and help bring this important reformer to the attention of English-speaking readers of the Reformation.
