Villain School Good curses Evil

Wonderful story! I will save this book to read with my grandchildren and will be donating one to the local and middle school library.
I was entralled from the first chapter and very suprised at the twist and turns the story took. Villain School: Good Curses Evil

Definitely diggin' this one...

Much to my surprise, this was actually a REALLY great read (I wasn't too sure at first given the title had the word "school" in it, ya' know?). Anyway, Rune makes a strong lead character (LOVE his sarcasm and humor), and he shares the stage with a pretty cool cast of enduring characters (wolves, sprites, ogres, kings, queens, Dracula... oh, my!) It's like a mush of fairy tales meets all-other-things-children's-classics with soft wisps of Arthurian legend and Potter thrown in. HOW TOTALLY COOL IS THAT? This is one of those books that is thoroughly enjoyed on its own, but if you pay attention, you can clearly see it setting the stage for future story plots. I'm hoping Sanders is planning on building a decent-sized series using these characters because she's definitely got a great foundation in which to carry something like that through. I'm not sure what the plans are, but I'm really hoping to see these characters grow and mature with time and have the plots deepen and mature right along with them (kinda' like Rowling did with Potter or Lewis did in the Narnia books). That would be AWESOME! Definitely looking forward to more...

I think I was still on page one when I started laughing and felt that the humor was placed perfectly throughout the story to keep up the fun. Not an overly complicated story but fast paced and I thought the idea of famous villain kids was a fun new concept that I'd never seen before. Honestly I think this would be a great read for both middle grade girls and boys.

Still Sinfully Sexy!

Most Wanted is sinfully sexy while still giving a great story line. We get some back story on max's upbringing and why he does, or doesn't, want certain things from this relationship. There is a little bit of relationship angst that has both characters really realizing that having the other person in their life is the most important thing. Having people outside of your relationship appreciating your significant other's qualities and talents brings that back into the forefront of your feelings.

And we can't forget the delicious sex scenes between Max and Ethan. While still smoking hot and keeping with the theme of their relationship, the scenes were also comforting at times. At times done with the intent to comfort and show the other that they are the loved one, they are the one desired.

As with Ms. Owens' other books, Most Wanted is well written with an easy to imagine life for Max and Ethan. The addition of Henry and Franklin added a bit of suspense. Not knowing if one of them would make an offer that couldn't be refused and possibly wedging into that life. It wasn't heavy on angst and overbearing action. Rather, it was the perfect mix, giving an enjoyable ride, and view, into the life these two characters built.

Max's realization about Las Vegas is how I feel about Tricia Owens' books ~ 'an escape from reality and an excuse to act out of character, if only for a few hours.' Of course, sitting and devouring as much as I can of each new book of Ms. Owens' is totally 'in character' for me. I can't help it!

This book is a great afternoon indulgence! I highly recommend Most Wanted as well as the rest of the books in this series!

Another Great Installment!

4.5 stars - Ethan and Max are tested in more ways than one in this installment. For starters, Ethan’s latest assignment is protecting a TV star/children’s author and his young son while they are in Vegas doing book signings. Seems pretty cut and dry, but being around a young child has made Ethan think of the possibility of having that with Max. With the subject of marriage already having been on their table and not going extremely well, this just adds to that tension.

Ethan and Max struggle a bit with their limitations (i.e. their relationship being so strictly closeted with no visible chance of that changing, the marriage/kid issue and whether that is something that will ultimately come between them, or whether they will be enough for each other). I love how they are having to deal with these issues and insecurities and loved seeing how it all panned out.

There is also the introduction of another man, who wins a date with Max at the auction. It seems they are dealing with an infatuated stalker situation, but there are some twists and connections involving this that really turn things around.

This continues to be a very interesting, fast-paced story that is wholly keeping my interest. I can’t wait to see how these guys ultimately end up and am thoroughly enjoying the ride to get there. On to the next chapter, er, book!

Sin City Heats Up

Once again, I was drawn into the a world where not everything is always black and white. Tricia has a way with her boys that I don't see often in most novels now-a-days. I love her Sin City series and Ethan and Max never fail to give me a good ride(pun intended). While there are some small mistakes in the book, it doesn't detract from the overall story. With each new book, we find Ethan wearing down Max's reluctance to be close to someone and I love watching how they interact with one another. Yet another good read by a very amazing author and I eager await the next one.

About the Author
Natti Ronel is a senior lecturer at the Department of Criminology, Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel, and licensed clinical criminologist who holds private practice with criminal population, youth and adults who exhibit addiction, violence and/or victimization. He has a special focus on the spiritual aspect of criminology and victimology - its values and impact upon individuals and communities: spiritual based intervention and recovery, moral transformation, forgiveness and spiritual intelligence. Natti is the proponent of a new criminological theory 'The Criminal Spin'. Natti is both a practitioner and researcher of victimology. K. Jaishankar is a senior assistant professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, India. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of two international journals and have edited three books and authored one. He is a Co-Investigator of an International project on cyber-bullying and a member of the UNODC (United Nations office of Drugs and Crime, Vienna) Core group of Experts on Identity related crime. Jaishankar is the proponent of the 'Space Transition Theory of Cyber Crimes' and his areas of academic competence are Victimology, cyber criminology, crime mapping, GIS, communal violence, policing, and crime prevention. Moshe Bensimon is a lecturer at the Department of Criminology, Bar Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel. His fields of interest combine criminology, victimology and music. In his recent studies he examines the place of music in different psychological and psychosocial victimological aspects, including music therapy with PTSD survivors. Moshe investigated, for example, the impact of group music therapy on victims of terror attacks and the meaning of collective singing to people who were evacuated during the Israeli Disengagement from the Gaza Strip.

An Introduction to Stoic Thought, Direct From One of Its Best Practicioners.

Introductions to Stoic thought are readily available, both in print and online. There's even a "Philosophy for Dummies" book that can tell you all about it. So why do we need another one?
Stoic Paradoxes is philosophy for adults. It's an "introduction" in the real sense, because it shows you the world as the Stoic philosophers saw it, not as it's viewed through the eyes of some 21st-century philosopher. Curtius buttresses Cicero's essays with lengthy introductions to the author and the times he lived in, as well as copious notes, but the essays are intended to stand by themselves. It's obvious from reading them that Curtius's translation puts heavy emphasis on maintaining the somber tone and personality of the original.
While I don't speak Latin, I am a professional translator, and the translation is excellent. While it's quite readable, the balance is tipped towards accuracy over clarity or brevity, to ensure that as little of possible of the original's nuances are lost. Cicero was a Roman, writing to an audience of Romans, and so he uses many historical and contemporary references to drive his points home. Each of these references is footnoted, and if you aren't very familiar with Roman history, I'd suggest buying the kindle version to make it easy to flip between them and the main text.
The Stoic Paradox essays themselves are fascinating reading. The Stoic value system, as Cicero describes it, is completely different from anything we have in the modern world. For example, Cicero isn't like a Buddhist ascetic who gives up everything he owns to go live in a hut and pray, or a Christian monk who says "Store up your treasures in heaven." He acknowledges the value of worldly goods, and seems to have done quite well for himself. (Curtuis's essay has him being executed while being carried in a litter, and in the first paradox, he writes, "I will never say that a man who has lost cattle or good furniture has not lost something valuable.") But at the same time, worldly possessions come and go, and a man should avoid getting overly attached to them. Curtius' translation memorably describes covertousness as a "dominatrix", an overbearing, violent woman who forces men into slavery.
Despite its relatively short length, this book is well worth the price for anyone interested in learning more about ancient philosophy, straight from the mouth of one of its best practitioners. I recommend it highly.

Approachable Stoicism, Still-Revelant

A long overdue, easy-to-read translation of Cicero's work for modern audiences. The ever-dependable Curtius approached his task with discipline and care, aiming for accuracy in translation, with the result that the author's voice is clearly-retained. Included are essays that expand upon his life and historical position, along with many easily-referenced footnotes to add meaning and clarity to milieu-specific references within the original text. Combined with his own words, a portrait arises of a complex and fascinating man, passionate in his beliefs whilst keeping a close watch that his passions didn't consume him. Cicero asks a lot of his audience, but it's also self-evident he does so because he thinks very highly of them.

It's fascinating to think that although Cicero and I are separated by Millennia, our fundamental observations of life in very different time periods are unchanged, which suggests there's true wisdom in his words, particularly-applicable for those who find themselves emotionally-anchored in a time when emotional reactivity and hysteria is both encouraged and celebrated through all levels of society.

Curtius can take pride in offering readers such a valuable translation of a still-relevant work.

Quintus Curtius presents us with a gem. He provides valuable content for every man searching for his path.

The Stoic Paradoxes offer us great insight into Cicero, one of the greatest speakers and thinkers of Ancient Rome. Even Cicero with his wisdom failed to see the coming trends and lost the political battle. Quintus gives us wonderful analysis of Cicero's life.

I tried to find docomentation about Module.symvers, linking at runtime, symbol issues, etc... No luck. At least the o'reilly book touches on these topics.

The very BEST

Without a doubt, this is the best driver book I've ever purchased. In the first few chapters the author walks you through boot, interrupts, builds, installs etc so that you can make the most of his outstanding knowledge of drivers and driver design which fills 3/4 of the book. Even if you don't want to design or build your own driver, the first few chapters alone are worth the cost of the book and the knowledge he imparts about drivers is priceless. If you are a Linux Kernel analyst, you can do no better than purchase this. And as to his writing style.. I've read plenty of dry, boring Linux technical books but this one even has a most outstanding writing style. It was enjoyable to read. I cannot praise this book enough. If you're a newbie Linux Kernel Techie or someone who thinks they already know everything... you cannot go wrong. Buy it, read it and you will learn more about drivers than from any other book, and you'll learn a whole lot more besides.

Get Linux Device Drivers from O'REILLY instead

The people who gave this book 5 starts are either friends of the author, the author himself, or guys who have been writing linux drivers for years and felt like reading what they already knew. Although the author seems to be very knowledgeable on the topic, his book is really terrible at explaining the essential kernel functions needed for writing device drivers and their respective parameters. He only mentions that they exist. To understand what the author is doing, you would have to resort to searching alternate references. Also his examples don't work. I can tell that he never tried to compiled these examples.

After reading the first few chapters, I decided to get the linux device drivers book from O'REILLY and as soon as I started reading, I could point out loads of important information that the first book failed to relay. The examples in the O'REILLY book are also by far better.
