A Young Girl Arrives in a New City

Me Llamo María Isabel (My Name Is Maria Isabel) tells the story of a young girl who moved from Puerto Rico to New York City and how she seeks to adapt to her new society while retaining her cultural identity. On her first day of school, because there are already two girls named Maria in the class, María's teacher introduces the new girl as Mary Lopez. María Isabel, however, does not like the sound of the Anglo name, which sounds strange to her. María Isabel Salazar López is proud of her appellation, as she was named after much admired members of her family. She knows that the teacher means no harm, but does not know how to tell her what she wants. While reading Charlotte's Web, María Isabel realizes how her spider heroine conveyed her message and finds an ingenious way to tell her teacher and everyone else how she really feels.
Alma Flor Ada tells a beautiful story about dignity without preaching. My only criticism is that, with other Latino and Latina students in her class, she could not have asked them to translate her desire to the teacher, or why María Isabel was not in a bilingual class. The story's central theme, though, is very real; this story is a gem and a great way to brush up on one's Spanish.

I love the unexpected twists that the story takes

I just finished my second reading of 'Goodbye Belvidere: His Eye is on the Sparrow'. As with the first book in the series, ‘Goodbye Belvidere: A Hundred and Sixty Acres', the second time through was as enjoyable as the first! I love the unexpected twists that the story takes, especially toward the end.
It is fascinating and inspiring that even the main characters in her stories are not ‘white-washed’, but display human imperfections as they face daily struggles and seek to please the Lord and follow His will for their lives.
Thank you, Joyce, for all of your hard work - and I'm looking forward to the third book in this series.

Susan Seymour received the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age. In her early twenties, she was introduced to A. W. Tozer’s The Knowledge of the Holy, which greatly influenced her life. Susan attended West Texas A&M University, where she received a BS in history with honors. She also has a bachelor of theology from Christian Life School of Theology. Currently, Susan resides in Amarillo, Texas, and is the owner of a gift shop in Claude, the town where she was raised.

AWAKE thou that sleepest....and Christ shall give thee LIGHT!

This book comes with a prophetic anointing, which displays the author's intense heart for God and true righteousness! Believers who walk in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit are already aware of many issues the author brings to light, and will offer a ready "Amen".
God is raising up an army of young people who will not be content with human-centered plastic Christianity, but will hunger and thirst for reality and true holiness. The message in this book provides numerous guidelines for these hungry souls.
I thank God for this young lady, who is obviously more interested in pleasing her God than in being popular with people. Those who ignore this message do so at their own peril.

Reading this book confirmed much of what I have been thinking about todays church, but could not put into my own words. This is a must-read for anyone who thinks they are a saved Christian and definitely not just for our youth. Although the youth are certainly at risk, we all are in danger of being deceived in the church today. Don't miss this anointed author.
