Ships in the night: water experts and the Middle East.

This witty and wide-ranging book looks at the geographical, religious, cultural, legal and above all political aspects of water in the Middle East. It's a brilliant and wide-ranging explanation of why national water insecurity is simply not recognised there. And Allan argues that it does not, in fact, exist: although the area has run out of water, it imports it invisibly in the form of grain - a rescue system which cannot, for domestic political reasons, be acknowledged. Along the way he exposes the arrogance of western water experts who think they can solve water problems in developing countries by advocating economic rationalism without taking account of the history and politics of the countries they advise (or the economic irrationality of their own nations). Little wonder that their solutions are not adopted by local power elites who think they are self-serving and ill-informed. Water is a contentious issue, says Allan, but only one part of the larger political relationships between countries. It will be the subject of dispute when that is politically expedient, but has hardly ever been in the past, and will be even less so in the future, a sufficient cause for war. This book puts all the "water wars" books into the shade. Its sophistication shows up the superficiality of narrow analyses that don't take account of global influences on local situations. It recognises that facts are what the powerful choose to see. Allan argues that, as countries develop socio-economically, they will be able to make policy changes that will make more efficient and effective use of water, as Israel already has. Only when an economy is strong and diverse can it support re-allocation of water from agriculture. He thinks there will be enough water to sustain the growing world population - and he has an entertaining and erudite analysis to convince the reader he's right.

W I L T O N *** Director of Sales & Marketing FAILS***

First and foremost I must say Wilton is my number one choice for most tools and products. They have my respect for holding years & years of teaching standards above most in the industry. However, that being said, this DVD probably should have not made it past the first stage in the Marketing Division. It somewhat baffles me why Wilton didn't set a higher standard for a *professional* to demonstrate procedures in a longer DVD (or a series of DVD's) that you see the technics Begining to End with a professional look. I actually feel sorry for the women in this video and am very dissapointed in Wilton. I seriously wondered at one point if the cakes she was showing AFTER her short demomstrations of *sloopy technics* were actually cakes SHE did and not ones a professional did. If I didn't know better and this were the first time hearing or seeing a Wilton presentation, I would be looking elsewhere for my baking needs. What a shame.....

One would only hope that if Wilton considers doing something of same again, or if they have and I have not seen it, that it's presentation and professional standards are as notable as the Wilton name has been for years.

I want to get into cake decorating and didn't know where to start. My daughter had her first birthday and I wanted to make her a cake. Although I've been baking for a while I've never decorated a cake. I was really nervous I would mess up. It came out great for the first time. I definetly recommend this for beginners.

It took me about 40 minutes to read this lesson plan thoroughly; while it is inexpensive at under five dollars, I still don't know if that is necessarily a good value. As some reviewers have pointed out, much of the book focuses on advertising Wilton products; without all of this the useful material in the book could have been condensed down to a couple of pages. I did like the photographs and the techniques for making different consistencies of buttercream for different uses. I had initially planned on getting the subsequent lesson plans as well, but I don't think it will be worth it. If you have any skill/experience with cake decorating at all, I'd recommend skipping this book.

Great Latin text for college level classes

If all you need is book 6 of the Aeneid then this is a great text for that. If you are looking for a book that would cover the AP syllabus look else where. The book has a excellent layout of notes and text, although the vocabulary is at the back of the book so there will be a lot of flipping. If you are used to Boyd or Pharr then this text could be annoying. The commentary about the Aeneid and the connections of book 6 to the rest of the work is good. Over all a great book to have for reading the underworld passage in the Aeneid.

A good overview of Producing Stock Footage & Video Production fundamentals especially with hired talent

I discovered Robb's book while looking for tips on the Shutterstock contributor blog. I discovered stock footage in 2012 when I sold a 6 second clip of Forbidden City, Beijing for $60 US. I got serious about doing it at the beginning of this year, but I had accumulated a travel video library for my business chicvoyageproductions.com since 2011. Rob and his company are bit more established than I am at this point so it is interesting to hear his thoughts on stock footage, who the customers are and his positive outlook for the industry. One of my frustrations is that after a sale the stock footage sites don't provide visibility into who they are.

The book finally came out on kindle and I read it in a day. Rob does a good job of covering the process at a general level so someone new to stock footage would enough know-how to begin;however I deducted a star as I like specific details, links, and recommendations. It would have been good to know what software he uses and his opinions and frustrations of using the stock footage sites like Pond5 and Shutterstock and others. There is a heavy focus on shooting stock footage of hired talent so it is interesting to get his take on how that is approached. It's amazing to hear how much money and preparation is going into his stock footage shoots. I've focused on travel attractions, nightlife, and food mostly in Asia so it's interesting to that we can both participate in this space from such different backgrounds.

I hope that those of you new to stock footage give it a try. If you're into photography or a video production team it would make sense to give it a try with Pond5 first. Comprehensive guide to stock video tools and techniques

Robb has written an excellent overview of the stock footage business here. This is a really useful book for those starting out and wanting to earn some extra cash by creating stock video, although there are also some useful tips and insights for those who've been licensing work for a while. Chapter Six where Robb shares his insights into directing talent is particularly good ("What you appreciate, appreciates"); you can see how his skill in this area pays off in the performances and emotional content seen in the Uberstock collection. Yes, creating high quality stock footage is actually hard work and for many, it's a full time job. No, not everyone is going to become a millionaire. Nevertheless, I still think it's worth a look at this market, even just to earn a few extra bucks, and this book really does cover what you need to know.

Wonderful!

I have just finished reading Tylluan Penry's book 'Magic on the Breath'.

It was an interesting read, possibly aimed at those newer to the craft but also a useful read for those more experienced, with some really good exercises in.

The book is based on Tylluan's years of experience and her belief that power comes from our own breath. I hadn't actually realised it but on reading her book I do use my breath a lot when I am working magic so it made perfect sense!

Tylluan has an open and honest way of talking about the craft which was very refreshing to read.

She covers a whole host of topics all based on casting spells, good sections on glamour magic, talismans & amulets, working with the moon, knot magic, the magic around us, lots of practical uses for magic on the breath and an excellent chapter on thought forms.

A very interesting read, lots of exercises to work with and a totally honest and refreshing view of working magic.

Taking notes and starting the simple breathing exercises. Loving this book!!! Tylluan is such a good instructor. Love her views and perspective which gives her book a well rounded teaching. Beautiful techniques for the beginning witch

I am just starting out on getting in touch with a pagan path, and I don't know where I would be without this book from Tylluan Penry! This book has given me many tools to unlock my will and get my intentions on track. The author doesn't just regurgitate information to you, she actually teaches you the devices to figure out what it is you're wanting to accomplish. Many great techniques are in this book for someone who is just starting out with magick, but I imagine a more seasoned witch can still learn something from the simple, no nonsense approaches outlined in this book. Mrs. Penry's writing comes off as very passionate and intelligent, and is sure to evoke in you a sense of wonder as you read. I hope you can find as much joy in this as I did, blessings!

About the Author
James L. Burrow, Ph.D., has a background in marketing and human resource development. He works regularly with the business community and other organizations as a consultant on marketing and performance improvement strategies including the use of the Internet as an education and training resource. He recently retired from the faculty of North Carolina State University, where he served as the coordinator of the graduate Training and Development Program for over fifteen years. Dr. Burrow received degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Nebraska in marketing and marketing education.

Aubrey R. Fowler III, PhD, has a background in marketing, advertising, and consumer culture research. He is currently the department head of Marketing & International Business at Valdosta State University's Langdale College of Business Administration. He also works with a number of regional advertising agencies in an effort to improve student education and career advancement. Dr. Fowler holds two degrees in English from Youngstown State University in Ohio, an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

About the Author

Dr. Yoseph Bar-Cohen is a senior research scientist and a supervisor of the Advanced Technologies Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California. He received his PhD in physics (1979) from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Bar-Cohen discovered the ultrasonic wave phenomena polar backscattering (1979) and leaky lamb waves (1983) in composite materials.

In his Nondestructive Evaluation and Advanced Actuators (NDEAA) lab, he led the development of novel methods and mechanisms related to electromechanics that are actuated by electroactive materials as well as ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation methods.

Dr. Bar-Cohen initiated the SPIE conference on artificial muscles, which he has chaired since 1999. He challenged engineers and scientists worldwide to develop a robotic arm driven by artificial muscles to wrestle with humans and win, and organized the first arm-wrestling contest in 2005.

For his contributions to the field of artificial muscles, Business Week named him one of five technology gurus who are "Pushing Tech’s Boundaries" (April 2003). His accomplishments have earned him two NASA Honor Award Medals and two SPIE’s Lifetime Achievement Awards, among many other honors and awards.
